How to reduce workplace / Zoom anxiety.
One of the most common areas of anxiety that I see is work place anxiety. It displays in a variety of ways, usually centred around meetings.
Fear of speaking up
Feeling of dread as you see the meeting in your diary.
Overthinking
Planning every word you will say
Rising panic as it’s getting nearer your time to speak
Sometimes there’s an overlap of imposter syndrome
Feelings of unworthiness
Feeling like a fraud
You may ‘get found out’
You don’t deserve to be there.
Why do I feel anxious in meetings or on a zoom?
It usually starts with a minor event, sometimes you can’t even remember why. Once that door of negative thoughts has been opened, it can be very difficult to close on your own.
Thoughts are habitual. Which means whenever your brain sees the same situation arising the thoughts start. You then get stuck in a continuous loop of negative thoughts.
Anxiety tends to grow, attaching itself to other areas and before you know it can spiral out of control.
There’s no doubt about it, this type of anxiety can have a serious effect on your career and earnings.
So what can you do to stop anxiety in meetings or on zoom?
Step 1:
Your thoughts control your feelings, so you must stop the negative thoughts which make you feel anxious. This is easier said than done I know, some suggest an elastic band around the wrist. A quick snap every time you start to have a negative thought can stop it in its tracks.
